| Activity TitleAsthma COPD Overlap Claus Vogelmeier, MDProgram GoalsThis collaborative activity presented by the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) and Temple University Lung Center is to provide attendees with an exceptional opportunity to learn, network, share knowledge and ideas, establish collaborative projects, and set priorities in the management strategy for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease. This topic is one of 10 that were presented at the November 16, 2016 GOLD COPD Care Continuum in Philadelphia, PA.
In 2017, the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) released the updated Global Strategy for the Diagnosis, Management, and Prevention of COPD. The revisions, presented in the management strategies for COPD are once again based on scientific literature published since the completion of the original documents and updates but maintain the same treatment paradigm. Participants in this activity have an opportunity to gain a better understanding of the current state this “strategy document” has for health care professionals to be able to use it as a highly useful tool in implementing elective management programs based on available health care systems. Target AudienceThe educational design of this activity addresses the needs of physicians, physician assistants, respiratory therapists, nurse practitioners, nurses, case managers, cardiopulmonary specialists and other healthcare practitioners involved in the diagnosis, treatment care of patients with COPD. Learning ObjectivesAfter completion of this activity, participants will be able to: 1. Identify patients who have a disease of chronic airflow limitation. 2. Distinguish asthma from COPD and the Asthmaâ€COPD Overlap Syndrome (ACOS) . 3. Select initial treatment and/or need for referral. FacultyCHAIRMAN
